What have we been up to in 1G last week?

In Art, we experimented with different tools in order to sculpt clay tiles. They are currently drying in school before we paint them and bring them home.

In PE, we are learning some co-operation team games which we can use in the playground at breaktimes. This is the children playing 'Red Letter' and 'Dear Mr Crocodile'. Can you explain the rules to your parents?

After a few days, these boys finally finished our world map jigsaw, improving their geography skills! Well done!

These children were problem solving using arrays (rows) to help them count in groups of 2, 5 and 10.
They were asked: Betty had her age in birthday candles on a cake. She arranged them into 6 rows of 5. How old is Betty?

In guided reading, these children were finding lots of rhyming words in their book.
They found words containing ew/oo/ue/u-e sounds.

100 days of school celebration!19/02/18

Today we celebrated our 100th day of school in Year 1. To mark the occasion, we had '100' themed activities all day followed by a cake ceremony and sharing assembly at the end of the day. We talked about how we are 100 times smarter than the start of the year and how all of our hard work has paid off so far!

The children brought in different examples of 100 things which they have been busy creating at home over the half term. They were excellent, varied and interesting so a big thankyou to the children and their helpers at home!

Here are some pictures of the day and the things the children brought in. Children please comment below to share your favourite part of the day!

Superstars of the week 25/01/18, 01/02/18 and 08/02/18

This superstar was chosen for settling into Stanley school really well, showing sensible behaviour, hard work and following our school rules.

This superstar was chosen for trying really hard to impress her teachers with her work which is being fully completed and shows how much she is improving!

This superstar has been working her socks off lately in order to make good progress in both her literacy and numeracy work.

These superstars are all children who others can look up to as good role models.

Remember our motto 1G:

A KID WHO WANTS TO BE SMART...
IS ALREADY A SMART KID! 😊👏

Request for boxes!

As part of our next DT topic, structures, we will be building 17th century model houses so we are collecting clean cardboard boxes in a range of sizes.

Thank you!

100 days of school celebration!

100th Day of School
Monday 19th February 2018
Our Year 1 classes will be celebrating the 100th Day of school on Monday 19th February, the first day back to school after half term.

To mark this special occasion, the number 100 is the inspiration for all of our lessons!

On our 100th Day we are asking children to bring in something that represents 100. Here are some ideas you can choose from:

-An old t-shirt decorated with 100 patterns.
-       A collage/drawing with 100 objects.
-       A collection of 100 pennies
-       A bag of 100 cotton wool balls
-       100 names of famous people
-       100 paper clips, jelly beans, lolly sticks, pebbles, leaves, animal names, grains of rice, pasta shapes, beads, etc.

The possibilities are endless. We can’t wait to see what you bring in!

Please can your child label their items clearly with their name and class.      We will be showing our 100 collections to children in KS1.

Thank you very much,
Year 1 teachers

Internet Safety Week

This week is our Internet safety week and today we have been discussing how to keep safe whilst playing games online.

We have been following the episodes from Hector's World (Thinkuknow website).
The children have discussed why we do not share personal details online and how we can use the internet safely.

So far we have looked at episodes 1-3. Feel free to have a look at the link below to discuss the issues with your child.
